Spits Fly Over Battalion

(BRAMPTON, ON) – They needed a big effort after getting chased out of Pennsylvania on Saturday night. And they got it.

Tom Kuhnhackl and Kerby Rychel each had a pair of goals, as the Spitfires scored five times in the third period to beat the Battalion 7-1 in Brampton Sunday afternoon.

Jack Campbell was outstanding in goal for Windsor (28-17-2-3) after being pulled in Erie a night earlier, making 29 saves and coming with 43 seconds of a shutout.

The Spits got shorthanded goals in each of the first two periods, from Kenny Ryan and Kuhnhackl, to take a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Then they exploded in the third.

A pair of goals from Rychel, including one on a penalty shot, Kuhnhackl, Alexander Khokhlachev and Nick Ebert in a 10-minute span put the game out of reach and gave Windsor a sweep of their season series with Brampton.

Andreas Tsogkas spoiled Campbell’s perfect afternoon, scoring a meaningless goal with just 43 seconds to play.

The Spitfires scored five of their seven goals on special teams – with three power play goals coming after their two shorthanded markers.
