(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Lancers will undertake a national search for their fifth football head coach upon the announcement of Joe D’Amore’s resignation effective immediately.

The former OUA Football Coach of the Year (2011) spent eight seasons at the helm of the Lancers program from 2012 until this season. He was named interim head coach in 2011, taking over from long-time head coach Mike Morence, and led the Lancers to a 5-3 record and two playoff games. The performance earned D’Amore the promotion to the fulltime gig the following year.

“I would like to thank Joe for his hard work and his contributions to Lancer Football over the past eight seasons,” Athletic Director Mike Havey told Go Lancers. “He is a true Lancer who was committed as both a coach and as a student-athlete to represent the University of Windsor with great pride and spirit. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

D’Amore was 18-38 over the eight seasons of calling plays from the sidelines. He cited the challenge of balancing family life with coaching responsibilities as the reason for his decision to step down. D’Amore broke the news to his players prior to the university making the announcement.

Havey indicated that the search for D’Amore’s replacement will take place as quickly as possible.
