Harwell To Be Honoured Tonight

The Detroit Tigers begin a nine-game homestand tonight hosting, first, the New York Yankees (May 10-13), followed by the Boston Red Sox (May 14-16) and Chicago White Sox (May 17-18). Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s games versus the Yankees will begin at 7:05 p.m. with a 1:05 p.m. matinee between the two clubs to close out the series on Thursday.

Prior to the game on Monday, beginning at 6:45 p.m., the Tigers will honor Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell, who passed away Tuesday, May 4 at the age of 92.

Tigers owner, Mike Ilitch had this to say on the passing of Harwell. “Ernie Harwell was the most popular sports figure in the State of Michigan. He was so genuine in everything that he did – from his legendary broadcasting to the way he treated the fans and everyone around him. He was truly a gentleman in every sense of the word.”

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for this special on-field, pregame tribute.
