Remembrance Services Prior To Vipers Game

By Megan Sylvester

(LA SALLE, ON) – Prior to their 7pm game against the Chatham Maroons, the LaSalle Vipers will host a special Remembrance Day ceremony on November 9, 2011, at the Vollmer Centre, sponsored by AM800.

The Vipers will honour Remembrance Day with a performance by the Scottish Society of Windsor Pipe Band.

Veterans from the Windsor Historical Society’s Veterans Memories Project will be in attendance.  Local veterans – including LaSalle residents Leonard Timothy and Stan Scislowski, and Amherstburg resident, John White – will be on hand for the ceremonial puck drop.

The Veterans Memories Project gathers stories and records – gleaned from interviews with local veterans; video-recording their memories of war-time experiences – and provides an online archive available to the public. To date, over 70 interviews have been collected, as well as stories from family members of deceased veterans.

Tickets for the Nov. 9 game will be on sale starting at 5:30pm at the Vollmer Centre.

The Vollmer Centre is located behind Sandwich Secondary school on Laurier Drive in LaSalle.
