Brawlers’ Rookies Make Semi-Finals

(TORONTO, ON) – Border City Brawlers’ rookies (known as Fresh Meat) played for the second year at the Fresh and Furious Tournament held by the GTA Rollergirls this past weekend. The tournament, which took place July 14, 2012 at Ted Reeve Arena in Toronto saw rookies from 14 teams battle it out in numerous nail biting finales.

The Border City Brawlers’ won their first game against Toronto Roller Derby’s D-VAS 28-18.

In the elimination round Border City’s fresh meat trounced Lindsey Roller Derby’s team 136-28.

Having made it to the quarter finals Windsor’s own Border City Brawlers fought tooth and nail against the Renegade Derby Dames from Aliston, On winning 32-29 in what was referred to as the tightest bout of the quarter final bouts.

Border City continued to wow fans despite losing the semi final match to tournament favourite Montreal Roller Derby’s Smash Squad, staying within 4 points until almost halfway through the bout. Windsor lost to Montreal 64-35.

The battle for third place saw the Border City Brawlers in a rematch against the D-VAS. This time the D-VAS were victorious with a decisive victory, 117 – 13 sending the Brawlers home with fourth place honours.
