Uzbek Athlete Booted From Games

(LONDON, ENGLAND) – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that Uzbek athlete Luiza Galiulina (artistic gymnastics) has been excluded from the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London.

Galiulina provided a urine sample on 25 July that tested positive for the prohibited substance furosemide.  The analysis of the B sample confirmed the results of the A sample.

As a result, the IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Thomas Bach (Chairman), Frank Fredericks and Göran Petersson, decided that Mrs Luiza Galiulina of Uzbekistan is excluded from the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London in 2012, and shall have her Olympic identity and accreditation card immediately cancelled and withdrawn.

The Athlete’s file shall be transmitted to the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique, which is requested to consider any further action within its own competence. The NOC of Uzbekistan and LOCOG shall ensure full implementation of this decision.

This decision shall enter into force immediately.
