Johnson Bright Spot In Losing Effort

(DETROIT, MI) – With 6 receptions for 117 yards in the first half vs. Atlanta, the Detroit Lions’ WR Calvin Johnson broke the following record and milestones:

  • Set new franchise record for receiving yards in a season. He broke team record set by WR Herman Moore (1,686) in 1995. He ended the half with 1,784 yards this season with six quarters to plays.
  • In the first half, he passed WR Issac Bruce (1,781 in 1995) for the second-highest single-season tally in League history.
  • Set NFL record with his eighth-straight 100-yard receiving game. He broke the previous record by WR Charley Hennigan (1961) and WR Michael Irvin (1995).
  • Tied NFL record with 11 100-yard receiving games this season. He is currently tied with Irvin who had 11 in 1995.
  • He set an NFL record for the most receiving yards through 15 games, surpassing WR Charley Hennigan’s record of 1,746 yards in 1961 (14 games).
  • Johnson became the fifth player in NFL history to record 1,700 receiving yards in a season and only the second to do so through 15 games. Hennigan registered 1,781 yards during 14 games of the 1961 season. He joined Rice (1,848 in 1995), WR Isaac Bruce (1,781 in 1995), Hennigan (1,746 in 1961) and WR Marvin Harrison (1,722 in 2002) in the group of receivers to record 1,700 yards in a season.
  • He is the first player in NFL history to record over 3,400 receiving yards in a span of two seasons.
  • Johnson’s 6 receptions in the first half increased his season total to 112. He is the second player in team history to record 110 receptions in a season. He surpassed Moore (106 in 1995) and WR Brett Perriman (108 in 1995) for the second-most receptions by a Lions receiver in team history. Moore holds the all-time team record with 123 in 1995.
  • Johnson continued his assault on the record books with 11 catches for 225 yards, breaking the single-season receiving record of 1,848 yards set by Rice in 1995. Johnson eclipsed the mark with a 26-yard catch late in the fourth quarter and now has 1,892 on the season.
