(WINDSOR, ON) – For the basketball junkie, it was a day made in heaven. On Saturday, 23 February 2013, the Windsor-Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association (WECCSSA) basketball championships were held at the WFCU Centre, hosted by the Windsor Express. Both the finals for the Senior and Junior Boys in Tier 1 and Tier 2 had teams facing off in the main bowl at the arena for the first time ever.

In Tier 1, the senior boys of Catholic Central Comets went undefeated during the regular season and continued they that trend as they soundly defeated Holy Names Knights 62-40, despite a large and loud contingent of red-clad supporters from the South-Windsor school.

In the Junior division, the Herman Green Griffins had tied for second with St Anne but made it to the finals through an exciting one point victory over the Tecumseh school in the semi-finals. The Catholic Central Comets secured their spot in the finals by defeating Assumption 75-32, on 20 February. With the stage set, the Comets scored the first six points of the game and didn’t look back, on their way to a dominating victory in Tier 1.
