Clippers Looking Strong

(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Clippers defeated the Wallaceburg Red Devils 14-7 in Junior B Lacrosse exhibition play. The game was hosted by the Sun County Crows Minor Lacrosse Association at the Heinz Arena in Leamington in front of 250 fans.

Wallaceburg opened the scoring 1:19 into the game, but that was the last time they saw the lead as the Clippers came back with seven in a row to take a 7-1 lead. The Clippers led 4-1 after the first period, 9-5 after 40 minutes, and finished with a 14-7 victory. Kyle May started in goal for the Clippers giving up one goal in 30 minutes of work, while Jacob Corra played the final 30 minutes and surrendered 6 goals.

Brendon Anger paced the Clippers attack with 4 goals and 1 assist. Matt Martinello (2,0) and Bryan Larocque( 2,2) each scored a pair while singles were scored by Ryan Marchand(1,1), Austin Thompson (1,0), Rain Whited (1,0), Trevor Learn (1,4), Kellen Leclair (1,3), and Dylan Riley (1,0). Hunter Bushnell also chipped in with a pair of assists.

The Clippers have signed 21 runners to open the season, and assigned the remaining runners to the Windsor Minor Lacrosse Intermediate squad. The goaltending scenario is not so clear as the Clippers still have four goaltenders in camp with just two spots remaining to fill. The Clippers will play three pre-season games in Oakville and will cut down to the maximum 23 man roster before opening day on May 4th.

The Clippers will open the 2013 regular season at home against the Guelph Regals on Saturday May 4th. Game time at Forest Glade Arena is 7:00 pm. On Sunday May 5th the Clippers will hit the road to Six Nations to take on the defending National Champion Rebels.
