Clippers Take Two On The Road

By Mike Soulliere

(WINDSOR, ON) – To say it was a thing of beauty would be a misrepresentation of the truth, but the truth is that the Clippers earned a pair of road victories. The Clippers defeated the St. Catharines Spartans Saturday night 9-8 and then edged the Welland Warlords 11-10 in overtime to complete the weekend sweep.

The wins improve the Clippers record on the season to 6-1 and the lead in the Far West division. The Clippers have a five game winning streak in tact, the last three of which have been by a one goal differential, coming into a pair of home games this weekend. The Clippers will host the London Blue Devils for a rare Friday night home game at Forest Glade Arena. Game time on Friday is 7:30 pm. On Saturday night the Clippers will welcome in the always tough Owen Sound North Stars for a 7:00 pm tilt.

In St. Catharines the Clippers fell behind 2-0 just 96 seconds into the game before they shook off the bus legs and battled back to lead 5-4 after 20 minutes. The teams traded goals in the second and third periods for the Clippers to hold on to the 9-8 victory. The Clippers held a 47-30 shot advantage in the win. Brendon Anger paced the Clippers attack with three goals. Singles were added by Josh Jubenville, Jarred Riley, Bryan Larocque, Lucas Ducharme, Ryan Marchand and Jeff Rivait. Kyle May went the distance in goal for the victory.

In Welland the Clippers had to put in some overtime to pry the two points away from a hungry Welland squad to earn the victory. Rookie Andrew Garant was the overtime hero scoring his second goal of the game with only 8 seconds remaining in the game to secure the win. Lucas Ducharme and Jeff Rivait also scored a pair of goals for the Clippers. Singles were added by Josh Jubenville, Austin Thompson, Brendon Anger, Trevor Learn and Bryan Larocque. Cooper Cecile faced 55 shots in goal to record the win.
