(DETROIT, MI) – The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will once again host two IndyCar Series races in one action-packed weekend in 2014. INDYCAR unveiled next season’s race schedule on Thursday evening confirming that the Raceway on Belle Isle Park will host the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans, May 30-June 1, 2014.
In 2013, Belle Isle hosted the first-ever IndyCar Series doubleheader when the turbo-charged, open-wheel machines battled on the 2.3-mile street circuit. After the successful debut of the twin race weekend format this season, Detroit will once again host the first of three doubleheader events in 2014. The first of the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans races will be held on Saturday, May 31 while the second race of the weekend will take place on Sunday, June 1. Each race will once again be full championship points events and they will serve as Rounds 6 and 7 of the 2014 IndyCar Series.
“We were honoured to host the first-ever IndyCar Series doubleheader this year and we are very excited to bring back the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans in 2014,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “We love the dual race format as it provides such a great value for our fans and our sponsors. We are thrilled to be able to start the summer right here in Detroit with all of the great activities at the Grand Prix.”
With such established stars and race winners as Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon, Will Power, Marco Andretti, James Hinchcliffe, Ryan Hunter-Reay returning former champion Juan Pablo Montoya and more, the IndyCar Series will provide plenty of thrills at Belle Isle.
In addition to the IndyCar action, the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will also compete at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. With North America’s two top sports car series joining forces in 2014 some of the best teams and drivers in the world will race in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic presented by the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers on Saturday, May 31. The high-performance production-based vehicles of the Pirelli World Challenge Series will return to race at the Grand Prix as well in 2014. Also racing a doubleheader on back-to-back days at Belle Isle, the series will host the Cadillac V-Series Challenge presented by the Metro Detroit Cadillac Dealers on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1.
The Grand Prix also plans to add some other exciting events to its slate of activities in the coming weeks as Belle Isle Park will be the place to be to start the summer of 2014.
“Next summer’s Grand Prix will have some new and exciting entertainment options both on the track and off the track,” said Denker. “I think our fans are going to love what they see on Belle Isle in 2014.”
