Riverside Skaters Compete Against The World

(WINDSOR, ON) – Figure Skaters from around the globe, as far away as South Africa, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain, gathered in Barrie to compete in the city’s prestigious Octoberfest Figure Skating Competition.

Included in that line up were eight Riverside Skating Club athletes.

Local Highlights of the weekend include:

In the Junior division:

  • Molly Ghanam, 9th

In the Novice division:

  • Alison Schumacher, 1st
  • Jaime Nicolson, 5th
  • Alyssa D’Asti, 13th

In the Pre-Novice division:

  • Jessica Taylor, 10th

In the Juvenile division:

  • Lauren Renshaw, 8th

In the Pre Novice division:

  • Ainsley Fabel, Pre-Juvenile, 2nd

For many competitive figure skaters, Barrie’s Octoberfest is a good opportunity to roll out their programs in front of international judges prior to the beginning of the qualifying round.

Western Ontario Sectionals is being held in Niagara Falls from November 1 to 3. Sectional events are the springboard competition that every region of each province has for competitive figure skaters to progress to Provincial and National level competitions.
