Riverside Skaters Heading To Sectionals

(WINDSOR, ON) – Riverside Skating Club is sending 8 skaters to the Skate Canada Western Sectional competition being held in Niagara Falls November 1-3.

The Western Sectionals is the first qualifying round for national events this competitive year.

Coach Jen Jackson has high hopes for her athletes: “Our skaters work hard, year round and this weekend is where it all comes together for the athletes. Their hard work pays off this weekend.”

Career highlights for Riverside skaters include:

Ainsly Fabel competing this year as a Pre Juvenile Under 11- Ainsly was talent identified and was invited to the Hot shot seminar this year for Skate Ontario.

Jonathan Guo is competing this year as a Pre Juvenile under 11 in his first year of competitive skating. Jonathan walked in to the competitive season this year right out of the CAN SKATE program.

Lauren Renshaw is competing in the Juvenile Under 11- Lauren was 4th in Ontario last year as a Pre Juvenile and was a member of the Western Ontario Development team.

Jessica Taylor is competing this year as a first time Pre Novice. Jessica is a past Development Team Skater. Jessica also placed 7th at Provincials in 2011.

 

Alyssa D’Asti is debuting as a Novice skater this season. Alyssa was the Bronze Medalist last year at Sectionals and qualified for Skate Canada Challenge. Alyssa has also been a 3 time medalist at the Sectional Championships beginning with her Gold medal in Pre Juvenile in 2009.

Alison Schumacher moves up to Novice this year. Alison earned the Bronze medal in The Skate Canada challenge last year placing 3rd in Canada.  Alison has also been a two time Sectional Medalist as well as a Provincial Champion in 2011.

Jamie Nicholson competes for the second year as a Novice skater. Jamie has battled back from injury this summer to make it to this year’s Sectional Championships and is feeling 100% and ready to go.

Molly Ghanam moved up to Junior this season. In previous seasons, Molly took home a 3rd place as a Pre Novice competitor at Sectionals and earned a spot at Skate Canada Challenge.  As a Pre Novice and Novice skater, Molly secured a position in the Provincial finals and earned a 5th place finish.
