Lions Announce Pre-Season Schedule

(ALLEN PARK, MI) – The Detroit Lions announced their 2014 NFL Preseason opponents that include home games for the preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 and the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3 at Ford Field. The Lions will travel to Oakland to face the Raiders in Week 2 and wrap up the preseason with a road contest at Buffalo in Week 4.

Detroit Lions lionIn the 2014 preseason opener, Detroit takes on Cleveland for the 46th time in the preseason, also marking the 13th-straight season they have battled in the preseason. The Lions own a 24-20-1 record in the all-time preseason series, and the Lions’ 45 preseason games against the Browns are the most against any other NFL club since 1949.

In Preseason Week 2, Detroit travels to Oakland to face the Raiders in the preseason for the second time in the last three seasons. The Lions most recently met the Raiders in the preseason in 2012 when Oakland defeated Detroit, 31-20. The two teams have met six times in the preseason, with Oakland holding the all-time preseason series edge, 5-1.

The Lions return home to Ford Field in Preseason Week 3 to face the Jacksonville Jaguars for only the second time in the history of the two franchises. The only previous preseason meeting between the two teams occurred August 10, 1995 when Detroit defeated Jacksonville, 19-3, at the Pontiac Silverdome.

Detroit closes out the 2014 NFL Preseason with a road contest against the Buffalo Bills. This year marks the 34th meeting between the Lions and Bills in the preseason, and they have squared off in the preseason finale each year since 2002. Detroit leads the series 21-11-1, including wins the past five years and a 35-13 win in 2013.

  1. Lets hope that this new coach will do something for the Lions, they need a strict coach that will jump on them when they screw-up.
