(DETROIT, MI) – Adding some fun and additional island flavour to one of Detroit’s most popular summertime events, a five-time Grammy Award nominated artist will host a matinee performance on Sunday at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

Jamaican-born reggae artist Shaggy (image attached) will headline the musical line-up on the MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage on June 1 as he will perform at approximately 12:30 pm before the second Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans Verizon IndyCar Series race.

With 11 albums released over the course of his career, Shaggy has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. His first album, Pure Pleasure, was released in 1993 and the follow up to that, Boombastic, won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1996.

Shaggy’s best-selling album to date is his fourth, entitled Hotshot, which was released in 2000 and has sold over 13 million copies worldwide with hits like “It Wasn’t Me” and “Angel.” In 2008, Shaggy recorded and released the single “Feel the Rush” which was used as the anthem to the UEFA Euro Cup European Football Championship. Shaggy also has a large social media outreach with over 1.8 million fans on Facebook and almost 85,000 Twitter followers.

“Shaggy is an artist that’s known worldwide and we’re excited to welcome him to the MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage on Sunday afternoon at the Grand Prix,” said Bud Denker, Chairman for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “With his distinctive reggae sound, Shaggy will bring a different level of fun and excitement to our crowd in the Meijer Fan Zone.”

The final day of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will feature a full slate of activities on and off the track. The Pirelli World Challenge Series will get the action started with the second Cadillac V-Series Challenge presented by the Metro Detroit Cadillac Dealers race prior to the Shaggy concert. After Shaggy performs, the second SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Truck Series race will hit the track followed by the Verizon IndyCar Series Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans Dual #2 to complete what promises to be an eventful 2014 Grand Prix weekend.

With Lifehouse performing as the featured act on Saturday evening, May 31, Grand Prix organizers are proud of the diverse and talented musical line-up that will be performing on the MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage throughout the weekend. Additional acts will be announced in the coming days. For a complete entertainment line-up that will be updated frequently as the Grand Prix approaches, continue to visit www.DetroitGP.com.
