(LAKESHORE, ON) – When the Canadiens Jr C Hockey Team takes the ice for the 2014-15 season, they will do so with a new but familiar look. The Canadiens Jr C team, who have won 13 GLJCHL titles and four Clarence Schmalz Cups as Ontario Junior C champions since being established in 1978, will maintain their iconic red, white, and blue jerseys.
The logo, however, will no longer have the stylized C, due to trademark issues associated with the Montreal Canadiens. Also, the full team name will now be the Lakeshore Canadiens.
With the Canadiens set to move into their new $57 million, state-of-the-art complex in Lakeshore for the upcoming season, the timing was right to make the change.
“We are excited to welcome the Town of Lakeshore into the Canadiens family,” says club president Stephen Savage. Savage says the rich history of the franchise as the Canadiens Jr. C team remains. “The Canadiens enjoyed tremendous support and success in Belle River and we want to continue that in Lakeshore, building off a great run last season.”
The Canadiens held their summer camp to evaluate players for the 2014-15 season May 31 and June 1 at Lakeshore Arena. They will open the home portion of their 2014-15 regular season schedule Friday, September 12 at the Lakeshore Multi-Use Recreation Facility, at ROCK Developments Rink, against the Essex 73’s. Game time is 7:05.
The arena’s grand opening will be Friday, October 17.
