(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Express made two major announcements leading up to the 2014-2015 National Basketball League of Canada season today. Express President & CEO Dartis Willis made it clear that the team is continuously looking to grow and develop even more so after winning the league championship last season.

Willis announced that Bill Jones will add Basketball Operations duties to his role as Head Coach. Jones will be responsible for all aspects of player personnel and player development.

“These are things that Coach had already been doing from the inception of the team back in 2012,” said Willis. “It only makes sense to give him this additional title and recognition now.”

Willis also made official the announcement that centre DeAndre Thomas had re-signed with the team and will be returning for the 2014-2015 campaign.

“DeAndre being the first to commit to the team makes a big statement,” said Jones. “It sets the stage for the other key players to return to the team and chase a second championship.”

Jones went on to say that the league gets better and sees better talent each year, which is why it’s important to rebuild the championship squad from the core players.

“In the first two seasons we were shooting for them [two-time defending champions, London Lightning]. Now every team in the league will be shooting for us,” he said.

Thomas has grown into a fan favourite in Windsor over the course of the past two seasons with his toughness and skill on the court and energetic personality.
