(WINDSOR, ON) – Windsor’s Shailyn Waites secured her place in the record books Friday night as the Lancers defeated York 5-2 on the strength of the 1st year forward’s hat trick. The win improves Windsor’s position in the OUA at 6-1-1 for 3rd place, just 2 points behind 1st place Western.

Waites’ linemate Candice Chevalier opened the scoring at 15:33 of the 1st period and the score remained 1-0 at the end of 20 minutes. Waites extended the lead to two goals before York Lions Lisa Stathopulos netted two goals (one short-handed) to tie the score before the end of two.

Waites then put her second of the night past York goaltender Megan Lee just 17 second into the 3rd frame to re-establish Windsor’s lead. With time running down, Chevalier deposited an empty net goal to seal the deal, and Waites completed her hat trick, also into an empty net, with 4 seconds left to play.

Krystin Lawrence, a teammate with Waites on the Blue Water Hawks, assisted on all three hat trick goals, and Marissa Kozovski faced 26 shots between the pipes for the win.
