(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Express closed out the year on a winning note with an 82-78 victory over the visiting Mississauga Power, Saturday night. The win entrenches Windsor atop NBL Canada’s Central Conference as they became the first in the league to reach the 10-win mark.
Head coach Bill Jones went sparingly to his bench, opting to rotate three subs in a supporting role. Four Express starters each logged over 40 minutes on the hardwood and the team limped over the finish line with just 4 points to spare.
Windsor was led by Chris Commons’ team-high 22 points. The Express forward also added 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the winning effort.
Centre DeAndre Thomas put up 17 points and pulled down 7 boards, as the Express got a solid defensive output from the team as a whole, including 11 steals and 7 blocks.
Windsor Square Player of the Game Gary Gibson was a workhorse for the Express. The 6’ 2” Windsor native was given over 41 minutes of game time and responded with a double-double the hard way. The guard dished 10 times and grabbed 10 rebounds, as well as contributing 8 points. He was also on the receiving end of a Tony Bennett breakaway pass in the 3rd quarter that resulted in a crowd pleasing one-handed flush.
Windsor will now turn their attention to Brampton as they get ready to host the A’s on New Year’s Day. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm.
