Saints Women Face Durham In V-Ball Playoffs

(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair College women’s volleyball team will host a huge playoff match this Saturday at the Sportsplex. The Saints will be taking on the Durham Lords at 2:00 pm.

The winner of the match will advance to the OCAA women’s volleyball Championship being hosted by Redeemer University, in Ancaster, from February 26 to 28.

The Saints ended the regular season in a three way tie for third place with a record of 12-6. The Lords finished the season with a record of 13-5 in a four way tie for second place. St Clair won 42 sets and lost 22 while Durham won 44 and lost 19.

The two teams met on January 3 in Oshawa at the Durham College Adidas Cup with the teams playing to a 1-1 draw in round robin play of the exhibition tournament. Game scores for St Clair were 25-12 and 19-25.

The St Clair women are currently ranked 5th in Ontario while Durham are ranked 9th. Both teams have been hot winning 8 of their last 10 matches.

St. Clair is led by third year left side hitter Helen Wiebe from Leamington, who is 5th in the OCAA with 3.06 kills/set.

Second year Libero, Monica Roch of Windsor, led the OCAA with 297 digs.

The Saints have also had strong seasons from fourth year middle Sara Yablonsky, from Windsor, and rookies Shalena Horst, of Dutton, and Kaila Crough, of Tecumseh.

Setter Desiree Redding, from Detroit, is second in the OCAA with 8.10 assists per set.
