Vipers, Flyers Move On To Second Round

By Rob Benneian

(LaSALLE, ON) – The LaSalle Vipers completed a four-game sweep of the Strathroy Rockets with a decisive 5-0 win Tuesday night at West Middlesex Memorial Centre. The Vipers needed a third period comeback to win each of the first three games in the series, plus overtime in Games 1 and 3 at home.

However, the Vipers seized control of Game 4 early, en route to a blow out victory. Tyler Russell scored a pair of goals, including the series clincher.

The Vipers could still hold home ice advantage in Round 2 based on the outcomes of the other quarterfinal series. The top-seeded Leamington Flyers swept the Lambton Shores Predators and will face the lowest remaining seed.

The seventh place London Nationals have the Chatham Maroons on the ropes. They hold a 3-1 series lead with Game 4 being won by Chatham 5-4 in London on Wednesday night.

The St Thomas Stars and Sarnia Legionnaires are tied 2-2 in their best-of-seven series, with Game 5 being played tonight in Sarnia.
