(WINDSOR, ON) – In the nation’s capitol last night, the Windsor Lancers men’s basketball team shrugged the proverbial monkey from their collective back and defeated the No. 2 ranked Ottawa Gee Gees 85-80 to advance to the Wilson Cup finals. The Lancers will now look to claim the OUA title for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Alex Campbell stepped up as the unlikely leader against Ottawa. The 6’ 2”, 4th year guard dropped a game-high 20 points, in the win, and added 8 rebounds in a battle for the boards.

Campbell was followed closely by Khalid Abdel-Gabar, with 19 points, and Mitch Farrell, 16, along with Rotimi Osuntola Jr, 11, as four starters scored in the double digits. Graduating senior Evan Matthews dropped 9 points and registered a game-high of 9 boards to help Windsor move on to the final.

The battle for the Wilson Cup begins at 6:00 pm this evening between the Lancers and the Carleton Ravens. In their only meeting of the season, Windsor edged the visitors 74-71 in a hard fought encounter at St Denis.
