(WINDSOR, ON) – The Windsor Lancers men’s basketball squad dropped their opening match last night in Toronto, falling to the CIS Final 8 hosts, Ryerson Rams by a score of 82-68. The loss relegates the Lances to the Consolation Round and will meet Bishop’s Gaiters today at 4:00 pm.

The Rams struck first and quickly built their lead to 19-10 by the end of 10 minutes. Windsor spread their points between five different players in the first quarter as no one confidently stepped forward to take the reins.

The Lancers kept pace in the second stanza, dropping further back by just 2 points, as Ryerson led 42-31 at the half. Alex Campbell and Khalid Abdel-Gabar started to increase their presence as they finished the 1st half with 7 points each. Not to be out done, Rotimi Osuntola, Jr, dropped 9 for Windsor.

Returning from the break, the Lancers had troubles as Ryerson stretched the lead out to 21 points and led 65-34 with only 10 minutes left to play. The Lancers pumped up the volume in the 4th quarter and out-scored the Rams 24-17, but it was too little too late.

Abdel-Gabar put up 20 for the Lancers and added 4 assists, in the loss. Campbell finished with 17 points while Osuntola scored 14 and cleaned the glass for 8 rebounds.
