Lions 2015 Opponents Announced

(ALLEN PARK, MI) – The Detroit Lions have announced the team’s 2015 NFL Preseason opponents that include home games for the preseason opener against the New York Jets in Week 1 and the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, at Ford Field.

The Lions will travel to Washington to face the Redskins in Week 2 and Jacksonville in Week 3 for a matchup with the Jaguars.

Detroit’s Week 3 game at Jacksonville will be broadcast nationally on CBS on Friday, August 28, with the kick-off scheduled for 8:00 pm. The game marks the third time since 2011 that the Lions have played a game on national TV in the preseason.

Preseason Week 1
In the 2015 preseason opener, Detroit welcomes the New York Jets to Ford Field for the second time in three years. In 2013, the Lions defeated the Jets 26-17 in the preseason opener. Detroit and New York have met only five times in the preseason, and Detroit holds the edge in the preseason series, 3-2-0.

Preseason Week 2
In Preseason Week 2, Detroit travels to Washington to take on the Redskins for the 19th time in the teams’ all-time preseason history. The Lions and Redskins last met in the preseason in 1996, with Detroit claiming victory, 34-25. The Lions lead the preseason series history, 11-7-0.

Preseason Week 3
The Lions travel to Jacksonville in Preseason Week 3 to face the Jaguars for the second-consecutive preseason. Last year, the Lions defeated the Jaguars 13-12 at Ford Field, and Detroit owns a 2-0 record in the preseason series against Jacksonville.

Preseason Week 4
Detroit closes out the 2015 NFL Preseason with a home tilt against the Buffalo Bills. This year marks the 35th meeting between the Lions and Bills in the preseason, and they have squared off in the preseason finale each year since 2002. Detroit leads the preseason series 22-11-1, including wins the past seven years and a 23-0 win in 2014.

Home Opponents

  • Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Francisco 49ers.

Road Opponents

  • The Lions will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8 of the regular season at Wembley Stadium in London as part of the NFL’s International Series on November 1. Kick-off is scheduled for 9:30 am.
  • Other road opponents include the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and St Louis Rams.
