Lions Announce Free Agent Signing

(ALLEN PARK, MI) – The Detroit Lions have announced that they have signed free agent DE Corey Wootton to a one-year contract. Additional contract terms were not disclosed.

Wootton joins the Lions after spending the 2014 season with the Minnesota Vikings, where he played in 15 games along the defensive line rotation and totalled 16 tackles (11 solo) and one sack. He entered the NFL with the Chicago Bears in 2010 and spent four seasons with the team. In 2012 he recorded a career-high seven sacks.

A fourth-round draft selection, 109th overall, by the Bears in 2010 out of Northwestern, Wootton has played in 60 career games as well as two games in the postseason. In five NFL seasons he has recorded 86 total tackles, 12 sacks, six pass defences, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
