(DETROIT, MI) – Rain or shine, the Stadium Super Trucks are a fan favourite in Detroit since first appearing last year. The brain child of Robby Gordon has developed a following that thrills to the jumps and spills that are part of the spectacle.
Three races were held this past weekend as part of the 2015 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grad Prix. And three different drivers emerged victorious.
In race 1 on Friday, Robby Gordon outlasted the pack to win his first race of the season. He did so in dramatic fashion by over taking EJ Viso on the back stretch and holding on by 0.4 seconds for the checkered flag.
Viso exacted his revenge by edging by Scotty Steele on the last lap for his fourth win at Belle Isle. A slide in the driving rain by Steele allowed Viso, a former IndyCar driver, the opportunity to sneak by the 17 year-old.
Steele was in the mix again on Sunday during race 3. This time, however, he fell victim to Burt Jenner, who took his second win of the season. Jenner also finished on the podium for the two previous races this weekend.
Viso now leads the SST standings after seven events. He has 229 points, just two ahead of both Gordon and Sheldon Creed.
