(LaSALLE, ON) – Following an impressive rookie season, LaSalle Vipers forward Brendan Harrogate has signed with the Mississauga Steelheads, the OHL club announced earlier yesterday.
Harrogate, 17, a Chatham-Kent AAA Cyclones graduate, was drafted by the Steelheads in the seventh round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. He scored 21 goals and 38 points in 37 regular season games with the Vipers, good for fifth on the team, and added another 19 points in 16 playoff games, and posted 14 points in 13 Sutherland Cup games.
“Brendan consistently improved throughout the season,” said Vipers general manager and head coach Bill Bowler. “That was the biggest thing with Gator. His playoff run was exceptional. He has a knack for scoring goals and being in the right place at the right time.”
Harrogate joins a group of players who have made the jump to the OHL after one season playing for Bowler in LaSalle. The list includes Windsor Spitfires Aaron Luchuk, Liam Murray, and Andrew Burns, Guelph Storm Austin Hall, and Saginaw Spirit Devon Paliani.
“Bill Bowler really developed me into the player I am now, along with (Vipers assistant coaches) Tunesy (Mark Turner), Onie (Kyle O’Neil), and Brad (Meredith),” Harrogate said.
Harrogate will be joining a former Viper in Mississauga; GOJHL Western Conference Goaltender of the Month (October 2013) Cameron Zanussi.
