(WINDSOR, ON) – Krystin Lawrence made 5 saves to earn a 2-0 shutout for the Lancers in their soccer match against Waterloo on Friday evening at Alumni Field. Starters Becca Fuerth and Patten Stephens ensured the victory for the women.
The two sides played to a nil-nil draw after 45 minutes with the Warriors holding the edge in the early going. Shots by Kaitlyn Unger and Shannon Brett were for naught and Lawrence was called upon to make two saves in the final minutes of the half to maintain the tie.
Stephens hit the back of the net in the 51st minute for her first OUA goal and to put Windsor on top. That effort was followed up nine minutes later by Fuerth, extending the lead to two, and providing the cushion for victory.
Fuerth had another chance a few minutes later and Courtney Fleming’s attempt was blocked.
Both squads traded chances with Lawrence and Waterloo’s Krystyna Brudnicki being equal to the task. A final try by Melanie Mitchell for the Warriors was blocked and the referee called time.
On Sunday, Windsor played host to Laurier, but were unable to continue the momentum. The Lancers gave up three to the Golden Hawks while replying just twice.
Windsor drops to 2-4 on the season, and sixth on the OUA West Division ladder. They will now welcome Algoma to Alumni Field for two matches on September 19 and 20. Game time is 1:00 pm each day.
