(KINGSVILLE, ON) – Kingsville rebounded from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Toronto Ice Jets 4-3 at home on Friday.
The Kings fell behind early in the first period before they cut Toronto’s lead to a single goal by the end of the opening stanza. Ludwig Niederbach scored Kingsville’s first goal and Johnny Guerrero added the second tally to draw the Kings within one.
The hometown club then added a pair in the second frame from Marcel Kottek and Ryan Gruszka, to close out the scoring and win their second GMHL game. Mathias Gardiman added two assists for the Kings.
Kingsville outshot Toronto 60-30.
Jan Pechek and Gardiman were named the game’s second and third stars, respectively.
Kingsville’s win over Toronto was hot on the heels of their inaugural win on the road when they blew the doors off Brantford, 11-0, on September 8. Gardiman had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Alexander Naskov and Blake Naida each notched a pair in the victory over the Steelfighters.
The Kings will now travel to Port Colborne this Friday to meet the Niagara Whalers. They will continue up the QEW to North York to face-off against the Renegades on Saturday before returning to Kingsville to host the London Lakers on Sunday at the Kingsville Arena Complex. The puck drops at 7:00 pm.
