(WINDSOR, ON) – The Lancers women’s soccer club hosted the visiting Algoma Thunderbirds for two games over the weekend at Alumni Field. The Blue and Gold improved their record to 4-4 with two victories at the expense of Algoma.
Windsor took the play to Algoma from the opening whistle on Saturday and didn’t let up until the completion of 90 minutes. Becca Fuerth made up for hitting the goal post with a tally in the 10th minute to get the Lancers on the scoreboard.
Lacey Marcoux next hit for Windsor as she extend the lead to 2-0 in the 31st minute. Fuerth then scored her second, just five minutes later, to stake the Lancers to a 3-0 half time lead.
The flood gates let loose in the second half as Windsor dominated with 7 uncontested goals en route to a 10-0 victory.
Cassie Chretien led the way with three 2nd half goals. Windsor also got a pair from Jenysis Gordon and singles from Jazmin Martin and Amber Hosker.
Krystin Lawrence earned the shutout for Windsor, who didn’t face a shot until the 88th minute.
Sunday’s match was only marginally better for Algoma as Windsor chiselled out a 7-nil win.
Chretien continued from where she left off with two fist half goals, along with Gordon and Patten Stephens.
It was Cara Cirovski’s turn in the second frame scoring two, including one from the penalty marker. Martin also tallied to complete the scoring.
The women sit 5th on the OUA West ladder with their .500 record. They are tied with Guelph with 12 points, but have played two more games than the Gryphons.
Windsor will play Western on Wednesday in London then return home for a Saturday match against York, starting at 1:00 pm.
