(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair College men’s and women’s golf teams are off to the Welland area this weekend to compete in the OCAA Golf Championships. The Championships are being hosted by Niagara College at Hunter’s Pointe Golf Club.
The teams will play a practice round on Sunday followed by three rounds of competition from Monday to Wednesday.
The St Clair women, who are the defending OCAA Gold Medalists, will have their work cut out for them to medal this year as Humber, Georgian, and Niagara have fielded strong women’s teams in the first two invitationals.
The Saints women’s team consists of Laura Martin, Jordan Schatz, and Victoria Ducharme. The St Clair women are currently ranked 1st in Ontario and 3rd in Canada.
The women placed third as a team at the Fanshawe Invitational last Saturday with Ducharme shooting an 81 in very tough conditions to place 4th individually. In the past three years the St Clair women have won two provincial gold, and one provincial silver.
The St Clair men will be looking to improve on their 10th place finish last year.
The Saints are led by fifth year player Alex Zappio, who recently won the Western Ontario Amateur Tournament. Other teams members are Tyler Leblanc, Brodie Weaver, Jay Chambers, and Zack Gervais. The Saints finished in 4th place at the Niagara Invitational this past Monday on the same course as the Championship.
