Single Goal Puts Saints Ahead Of Fanshawe

(LONDON, ON) – The St Clair Saints women’s soccer team travelled to London on Wednesday and won a tight match over the top ranked Fanshawe Falcons by a score of 2-1. This was a battle for first place in the OCAA West Division.

The Saints went up 1-0 in the 11th minute on a goal by Brittany Chapieski, then made it 2-0 three minutes later on a nice strike by Tiffany Trembley, and the women carried the score to the half.

Fanshawe closed the gap to 1 on a goal in the 77th minute, but that was as close as the Falcons would get.

Katrina Arnold was solid in net, turning aside 10 of 11 shots on target.

The Saints are now 7-0 on the season while Fanshawe fell to 6-1. St. Clair is now in first place in the West Division with 21 points.

Heading into the match, Fanshawe was ranked 2nd in Ontario and 7th in Canada while St Clair was 3rd in Ontario and 11th in Canada. The Saints also have three of the top 18 goal scorers in Canada, with  Bella Riccardi, Trembley, and Robyn Preston.

St Clair is next in action at on October 12 when they travel to Sarnia to take on the Lambton Lions.
