(KINGSVILLE, ON) – The Kingsville Kings have announced the signing of veteran Defenseman Steven Szekesy.
The Belle River native spent the last four seasons in the GOJHL with the Chatham Maroons, logging 27 goals and 139 assists for 166 points, in 226 games. Szekesy also served as a team captain for two seasons.
“We couldn’t be happier to bring Steven on board,” said head coach Gary Astalos. “He has an excellent work ethic and is a proven leader. He will fit in really well with the club.”
In a corresponding move, the Kings have traded Stuart Thornton to the Seguin Huskies. This leaves the Kings with one open spot at forward and one at defense.
“We are not in a rush to fill our remaining open cards at this time,” said associate coach Brandon Contratto. “We do have some interest from both local and international players and we want to make sure we bring in the right players to the program. I expect some additions to be made in the next 10-14 days.”
The Kings next game is on the road on October 23 against the London Lakers. They return home on October 30 to host the Halton Ravens for a Halloween promotional event.
The Kings will follow that up at home on November 1 when the Niagara Whalers come to town. That evening the club will honour the Erie North Shore Storm tournament champions.
