(AMHERSTBURG, ON) – The soccer gods were smiling on the Windsor Stars for the final match of the 2015 season in League1 Ontario play. With the fixture vs Sanjaxx Lions moved to Libro Field in Amherstburg, the Stars emerged with a 3-1 win over a determined opponent.

Windsor went on the offensive early when captain Stephen Ademolu ricocheted a shot off the crossbar and then another over top of the goal. A few minutes Sanjaxx replied with their own rocket that slightly missed the target.

The pressure swung from one team to the other until Matt Paonessa put the head to a cross and found the back of the Sanjaxx net, shortly before half time. The Stars were looking forward to gaining the wind advantage in the second half, but the stiff breeze promptly died down before the sides returned from the locker rooms.

Three minutes into the final frame, Marwan Helal deposited the ball behind Gauthaman Vasanthakumar in the Sanjaxx net for a 2-nil Windsor lead.

The Lions were not discouraged and continued to apply pressure to the Windsor defense. Both sides tested the keepers, but without luck until Fabio Vilaca buried the ball past Michele Catani in the Windsor goal, in the 81st minute.

Five minutes later, the Stars re-established the 2-goal lead when Strahinja Gajic finished a nifty give-and-go with Martin Nyul. After two minutes of stoppage time added, the Stars completed the season on a winning note.

With the win, the Stars ended in the 8th spot on the League 1 ladder, at 7-5-9 for 26 points.
