(WINDSOR, ON) – Malden Park was the scene of the annual Windsor Lancers Cross Country Open meet on October 17. With a slight chill in the air and southerly headwind, the runners found some refuge in the treed course around and over the various hills in the park, as the Laurier Golden Hawks arrived to compete.
The Lancer took both the men’s and women’s team titles as well as sweeping the two top individual positions for the women.
Allie Parks placed first overall with a time 19:35 over the 5km route. She was followed 17 seconds later when Lancer Stefanie Smith crossed the finish in second place.
Coming in 6th over all was the third Lancer runner, Chelsea Viselli, in a time of 21:51.
The women competed in an average time of 21:21.60 while Laurier competitors tipped the clock at 23:43.40. The top finisher for the visitors was 11th place Serena Gill, who ran the course in 23:24.
The Lancer men also took top honours in the team competition with an average 8km time of 26:28.60, 1:17 ahead of Laurier.
Nick Falk, University of Windsor Athletic Club, of the was the top individual finisher in a time of 25:08, and Alex Ullman was the fastest Lancer at 26:16. You can see the complete results at the Lancer website.
Windsor will travel to Waterloo on October 31 for the OUA Championships.
