(LaSALLE, ON) – The LaSalle Vipers have named forward Manny Silverio as their Joe Schmoes Player of the Month for October, head coach and general manager Bill Bowler announced. Silverio will be recognized for the achievement prior to the Vipers next home game, tomorrow at the Vollmer Centre vs the St Thomas Stars. Game time is 7:00 pm.
Silverio, 18, leads the team with 12 assists and 21 points so far this season, and he’s posted a team-high 16 points during the month.
“Manny is a consistent performer who has taken a step up from his rookie season both on and off the ice,” Bowler said. “He’s becoming a leader for our team.”
Silverio helped lead the Vipers to a season-best unbeaten streak of five games, between October 7 and 23, with four goals and eight assists in that span. He has also become a regular fixture on the Vipers penalty kill, which is operating at an 85 per cent efficiency.
Silverio’s two short-handed goals on the season are tied for the team lead with frequent line-mate Tyler Russell.
“Manny’s game is growing as we expected, and we need all of our players to continue to develop and bring a different element to their game to continue to help our team,” said Bowler.
The Windsor native was the co-winner of the team’s Rookie of the Year award a season ago after posting 48 points in 49 games.
