Robinson Making His Mark In Windsor

The newly acquired Brandon Robinson dropped 35 points against the Niagara River Lions on 2 January 2015. Robinson has quickly become comfortable in his role with the Express since coming over from the Crailsheim Merlins of the Basketball Bundesliga, in Germany.

(LONDON, ON) – The Windsor Express (3-2) secured their third straight win, after a last second three pointer from Brandon Robinson, to defeat the London Lightning (3-2) 94-91. The Express have rebounded after opening the season with two losses.

Chris Commons got the Express off to a quick start with a deep three, and was helped out by a strong defense that prevented the Lightning from dropping a bucket until the 9:17 mark.

The Express got off to a slow 2nd quarter and London was able to move into a ten point lead in the before the first two minutes had elapsed. Windsor closed the half trailing by only 5, however, 41-36.

Windsor outscored the Lightning 25-19 in the 3rd quarter after Robinson drove through the lane and hit a layup as time expired. The final frame saw London attempt a comeback in the opening minutes, closing to within two points, however Robinson responded with a trey down the stretch to keep Windsor in front.

London did tie the game at 91 with 17 seconds remaining, but Robinson hit another from downtown in the final seconds of the game to give Windsor the win.

Commons put up 22 points and made 3 blocks for the Express. Robinson finished with 9 boards to go along with 20 well timed points.

Kirk Williams Jr earned a double double for Windsor with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Express will head back on the road to take on the Niagara River Lions before returning home on January 10 and a 2:00pm start against the same Lions.

Windsor defeated Niagara in their first meeting of the year on January 2, by a score of 118-115. Robinson shone through with a game high 35 points for Windsor after being signed on December 31.

The 6’ 6” forward most recently played for the Crailsheim Merlins of the Basketball Bundesliga, in Germany, and had played previously for the Island Storm in the NBLC. In his Express debut against Orangeville, he scored 21 points along with 7 assists and 4 rebounds, while going 5-5 from the free throw line.


The Windsor Express have also announced the much anticipated Clash at the Colosseum III for February 3 at Caesars Windsor. The London Lightning will provide the opponent in the very popular annual affair, this year being held in partnership with Vito’s Pizzeria.

“Sports has a big place in mine and my family’s life and we are pleased to announce that Vito’s Pizzeria and O’Maggio’s Kildare House are the presenting sponsors for the Windsor Express’ Clash at the Colosseum III taking place at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Windsor on Wednesday February 3rd,” said Vito Maggio.

Seating for the all ages event is general admission, with very limited courtside seats available. Tickets are now on sale at $24 for adults, $16 for students and seniors, and $14 for children, and are available through the Express box office online or in person at 720 Ouellette Avenue.

“This is a game where our players really feel the fans excitement and energy,” said Express VP of Basketball Operations, Bill Jones. “That added motivation, along with playing our rivals the London Lightning should make for a great event for our fans.”

The third instalment of The Clash will tip off at 7:30pm.
