(WINDSOR, ON) – After play on Saturday, the Lancers are 5 games below .500, but the women have won three straight games and by a combined score of 11-4, including a 1-0 win over the 3rd place Queen’s Gaels, before the break. With a 5-3 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks, they have lifted themselves 5 points clear of the cellar and into a 3-way tie for 10th place.
Natalie Barrette, Krystin Lawrence, and Erinn Noseworthy made it 3-0 for Windsor before the half-way point of the 1st period. A power play goal by Nicole Gorda drew the visitors within two before the period ended.
The Lancers notched two more goals in the 2nd from Shawna Lesperance, with a man advantage, and Davis Smith, before the period was two minutes old. The Davis goal chased Tori Campbell from the Ridgebacks net, after facing just 16 shots, in favour of Cassie Charette.
Two late goals, by UOIT, in the 3rd made the score respectable, but couldn’t change the outcome. Ingrid Sandven kicked out 25 shots to earn her 4th win of the season, against 3 losses.
Lawrence led the Lancers with a goal, her 7th of the year, and 3 assists. Lesperance notched a goal and 2 assists while Noseworthy had one of each, for the multi-point scorers.
Windsor will put the 3-game winning streak on the line January 15 at South Windsor Arena when they take on the last place Ryerson Rams. The opening faceoff will take place at 7:30pm.
