(WINDSOR, ON) – Tickets for the 11th annual WESPY Awards are now on sale, at an early bird price of just $100. This year’s keynote speaker will be Heather Abbott, a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing.
The WESPYs will take place March 28 at the Caboto Club, in Windsor. The early bird price is available until February 12, after which time the regular cost of $125 will apply.
On April 15, 2013, Abbott was struck by shrapnel from the second of two pressure cooker bombs that had been placed and detonated Boylston Street, in Boston. After three surgeries in four days, Abbott made the difficult decision to amputate her left leg from the knee down.
Today, Abbott is now a certified peer counsellor with the American Amputee Coalition and has started the Heather Abbott Foundation, which provides customized prostheses to those who have suffered limb loss through trauma.
The WESPYs honour local athletes and sporting figures in the Windsor and Essex County area.
Tickets are available at Bob Reaume Sports, located at 4275 Tecumseh Road East, or at the WE-TV studios, at 6270 Hawthorne Drive.
