Falcons Carry Off Victory At SportsPlex

(WINDSOR, ON) – Helen Wiebe led the Saints offense against the Fanshawe Falcons at the SportsPlex yesterday evening. But, Wiebe’s efforts went for naught as the Falcons set back St Clair 3-1 in OCAA women’s volleyball action.

The visitors took the first set 25-8, but the Saints quickly regrouped and rebounded by winning the 2nd set 25-21. That was all the women could muster, however, as Fanshawe capped the night with 30-28 and 25-22 wins to win the match.

Weibe finished with 8 kills, 3 service aces, and 10 digs for a team-high 12 points. She was joined by Shalena Horst, who had 9 kills and 12 digs, and Sara Yablonsky with 2 kills, 1 service ace, and 2 blocks. The Saints offense was coordinated by Melissa Gowdy, who contributed 24 assists.

The loss leaves St Clair (9-7) tied in 4th place in the OCAA West with Redeemer and Cambrian with 18 points. The Saints will now head out on the road for their final two matches in search of post season play.

The women will play this Saturday in Sudbury where they will serve to Les Vipères de Boréal followed by a match against the Cambrian Golden Shield on St Valentine’s Day.
