By Jay Shewfelt

(SUDBURY, ON) – The St Clair Saints women’s volleyball team travelled to Sudbury this past weekend and came away with a split to secure a spot in the OCAA Playoffs.

On Saturday, the Saints took on Les College Boreal Viperes and came away with a 3-1 win. Game scores for St Clair were 21-12, 19-25, 25-17, and 25-13. With the loss Boreal’s record fell to 0-18.

On Sunday, the Saints faced the Cambrian College Golden Shield in a battle for fourth place. St Clair came out on the short end of this one, suffering a tough 3-2 loss. Game scores for Cambrian were 28-26, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 15-7.

With the win, the Shield ended their season with a record of 10-8.

After the weekend split, the Saints have ended their regular season with a record of 10-8 and are currently in a three way tie for fourth place in the tight OCAA West Division. The top 6 teams qualify for the playoffs, however, there is one game remaining in the division on Tuesday night that could see the Sheridan Bruins make it a 4 way tie for 4th place.

Based on tiebreakers, St Clair will either finish in 5th or 6th place and have to go on the road next weekend in a playoff cross-over match to quality for the OCAA Championships.
