(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair Saints men’s indoor varsity soccer team took part in the OCAA Championships on Friday and Saturday at Redeemer University in Ancaster. The Saints had an outstanding tournament winning the Silver Medal.

The medal is the first ever for the St Clair men in indoor soccer.

In round robin play on Friday the Saints had 2 wins and a tie, which was good enough for first place in their pool. St Clair defeated Fanshawe 1-0, tied Humber 0-0, and beat Conestoga 6-0.

The first place finish set the Saints up for the semi-final against George Brown College Saturday morning. St Clair defeated the Huskies 2-0 to advance to the Gold Medal game for a rematch against Humber.

In an outstanding match, the Saints took an early 1-0 lead just 15 seconds into the game, but the Hawks tied it up at 1-1, late in the first half.

Neither team could score in the second half or overtime which forced the teams into penalty kicks.

Humber won on penalties 5-4, scoring on all 5 chances while St Clair missed just one.

It is Humber’s 14th title in the last 20 years. Mitchell Hunter was named a Tournament All-Star while Shane Beaton was named Best Goalie.
