(HAGERSVILLE, ON) – The Windsor Clippers made waves Saturday afternoon as they won two of three games at the Six Nations Annual Spring Showcase near Hagersville. The Clippers, of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League, are in the midst of their training camp and preseason festivities, whittling their roster down to 30 runners and 4 goalies.
With last year’s regular season starter Jacob Corra between the pipes, Windsor opened up the showcase with a 5-3 win over the Halton Hills Bulldogs. Ryan Marchand led the way with a pair of goals and singles from Jake Rosa, Rain Whited, and Chase Kavanaugh. Captain Logan Holmes assisted three times in the match.
The Clippers dropped the second game as they fell to the Newmarket Saints with a 4-2 deficit. Holmes and Blair Cosgrove found twine for Windsor, while Colin Reaburn was in net for the loss.
Holmes put up big numbers to close out the showcase, sniping a pair of goals and adding two more assists to lead the way in a 5-3 victory over the St Catharines Spartans. The Clippers’ effort was furthered by markers from Patrick Kaschalk, Marchand, and Darien Delisle. Off-season acquisition Brayden Bell guarded the crease for Windsor.
Bell, son of well known goalie Jim Bell, comes with a wealth of experience. Having played last season with the Junior A Toronto Beaches, Bell has also spent time with the German U19 team and previously with the Point Edward Pacers.
The Clippers picked up the rights to Bell through a trade with the Pacers before tryouts began.
The preseason continues for Windsor as they travel to Elora next weekend for another tournament. The Clippers will be up against the Orillia Kings, Elora Mohawks, and a rematch with Newmarket.
They open the regular season on April 24 in Wallaceburg, playing their arch rival Red Devils. The home opener falls on May 7 at 7:00pm, against the Welland Generals.
