Saints Streak Still Sizzling

Shalapata-Header(LONDON, ON) – The St Clair men’s baseball team visited historic Labatt Memorial Park in London Friday to open the OCAA season against Fanshawe. The Saints carried a 33-game winning streak into the 2016 OCAA season and are the 3-time defending Gold Medal Champions.

The Saints defeated Fanshawe 8-5 to open the double-header and then swept the Falcons with a 10-3 victory in the night cap.

2015 all-star Max Ayarza went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a single, and 4 RBI. Kyle Breitner, also an all-star from last season was the winning pitcher, giving up 5 earned runs and scattering 7 hits, 3 base on balls, and 8 strikeouts over 7 innings.

Ayarza was 2-3 including a home run and 3 RBI in the second game. Shane Courtney worked 5 innings to earn the win, giving up just 2 earned runs and 4 hits while striking out 4. Ben Baltrusiunas came on in relief over the final two innings.

St Clair’s last OCAA loss occurred September 20, 2014.

The Saints will host Durham for their home opener September 17. They will then take on Humber the following day. Both double headers start at 1:00pm at LaCasse Park.
