Women Earn Four Wins In Opening Weekend

Shalapata-Header(KITCHENER, ON) – The St Clair women’s softball team hit the road Friday to open the 2016 OCAA season against Conestoga in a doubleheader Budd Park.

The Saints swept the Friday games, managing to hold off a determined Condors squad 12-11 in regulation and then earned another close decision 5-4 in the night cap after logging 2 runs in the top of the 9th.

Megan Lumley, an all-star in 2015, led the team in game 1 by going 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and scoring 3 runs. Returning after a season off, Alexa Georgiou earned the win with 4.1 innings pitched, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out 4.

In the 2nd game, Alexandra Senft was 3 for 3 and Allison Telfer batted in 2 runs in the winning effort. Sara Stiller gave up just 1 earned run over 2 innings for the win.

St Clair returned home for a Sunday double header against Humber. Again the women grabbed two wins, this time 6-5 and 11-4 in regulation.

Jenna Pierce, another of the all-star laden Saints in 2015, batted in a run and scored twice more while Telfer notched two more RBIs in game 1. Georgiou worked a complete game with 4 strike outs and just 2 earned runs and 11 hits.

Two-time OCAA play of the year Skyler Patteson batted in 4 runs as fellow record holder Sarah Bondy pushed 2 across in Game 2. Bondy was 3 for 4 with 2 singles and scored 3 runs.

Telfer took the win with a complete game 6 innings pitched. She gave up 10 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1.

St Clair will head to London to play two under the lights against Fanshawe on Wednesday. They’ll extend their road trip on the weekend for double headers against Durham in Oshawa and Seneca in North York.
