Mixed Success For Saints In Ancaster

(ANCASTER, ON) – The St Clair varsity soccer teams opened up their OCAA regular season on the road Saturday in Ancaster, as they faced the Redeemer Royals. The women got off to a solid start by defeating the Royals 3-1.

The Saints opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a goal from Tiffany Trembley. Cassie Nicholas put the Saints up 3-0 with two quick 2nd half goals in the 63rd and 67th minutes.

The total shot attempts for the match were 26-7 for the Saints, including 16 shots on goal for St Clair, compared to 5 for Redeemer.

The women play their home opener Tuesday at 5:00pm when they host the Lambton Lions at the Main Campus  Field.

The men played a good match, but struggled to put the ball in the goal and ended up losing 2-1 to Redeemer.

After dominating the play for most of the first half, the Saints allowed the Royals to open the scoring in the 40th minute from a free kick.

Redeemer extended the lead to 2-nil in the 60th minute before St Clair managed to get on the score sheet in the 88th minute, on a tally by Yale Chadsey.

In the first half the Saints  had 15 shot attempts compared to 5 for Redeemer. In the second half St Clair had 12 shot attempts compared to another 5 for the Royals. Shots on goal for the match were 8-5 for the Saints.

The men open their  home schedule on Wednesday night at 5:00pm when they host the Lambton Lions at the Main Campus Field.
