(WINDSOR, ON) – The 2016 fastpitch season opened on the weekend as the Windsor Lancers hosted both Ottawa and Carleton for double headers at Turtle Club in LaSalle. Despite the threatening weather, the Lancers concluded play with a 2-2 record.
On Saturday, Windsor dropped both games to Ottawa by 4-1 and 2-1 scores. They redeemed themselves the next day by sweeping Carleton in dominating 10-4 and 8-4 decisions.
The Lancers were led through both series by veteran Amanda Simke, who rallied the team through her leadership on and off the field.
Simke pitched a total of 16.1 innings over the two days, including 2 complete games and an appearance in relief. On offense, she was 10-for-12 from the plate, with 3 doubles and 7 singles.
Simke could also be seen in the dugout encouraging the newer members of the Lancers.
This weekend the Lancers travel to St Catharines and Hamilton to meet Brock and McMaster. They’re next at home on September 22 for two under the lights at Forest Glade Park when the Western Mustangs arrive in town. The first pitch goes at 7:00pm.
