Hunt Leads Lancers Past Algoma

Shalapata-Header(SAULT STE MARIE, ON) – The Windsor Lancers have improved their record to 3-0-2 after dominating two decisions against the Algoma Thunderbirds in the northern Ontario outpost of Sault Ste Marie.

The Lancers began the weekend’s festivities with a 9-2 victory Saturday. Windsor was shown the way with three goals from Abby Hunt and a pair from veteran Becca Feurth. Four more goals were added by rookies Chelsea Zavitz, Alexandria Caputo, and Kristyn Hodgins, and the game winner from Jazmin Martin.

Multi-sport athlete Krystin Lawrence split time in goal with backup keeper Kristy Brooks, sharing 4 saves and the win.

On Sunday, the two sides met again with a similar result.

Feurth and Cassie Chretien each scored a pair en route to an 11-nil win for the Lancers. Hunt chipped in her 4th of the weekend and the season. Hers was the game winner. Windsor also got singles from Hodgins, Giulia Barile, Jaclyn Faraci, Abigail Palombo, and Corrine Robinson.

This time Brooks remained in goal for the entire match, earning her first OUA clean sheet.

Windsor is 3rd on the OUA West ladder with 11 points after 5 games and trails 1st place York by 4. The Lancers are at Laurier (2-1-2) on Saturday and then visit Waterloo (0-4-1) the following day.
