Windsor U16 Wins Ontario Cup

(WOODBRIDGE, ON) – The Windsor VH Soccer Academy defeated the Mississauga Comets to capture the  U16 boys tier 2 Ontario Cup. Prior to the match, Mississauga had sat undefeated atop the PHDL league.

Paul Di Meo opened the scoring early on for Windsor when he got in behind the Mississauga defence and made the most of his opportunity. Di Meo buried the ball low to the corner for a 1-nil lead.

Within moments, Mississauga answered back off a set play on a corner kick. The kick in was found by the head of Andrew Kaszuba as he brought the Comets level.

The two sides traded chances, but just before halftime, Windsor regained the lead when Noah Mueller sent a loose ball to the far side of the Mississauga goal.

After three goals in the 1st half, the final 45 minutes was distinguished by the by defensive skills. Windsor controlled the possession, but could not convert on their chances. Mississauga was desperate in their attack, but the defense was equal to the task.

Windsor dominated their Ontario Cup bracket, out-scoring opponents 12-4 over three games.

With the win, Windsor VH will embark on the evolution into Windsor TFC Academy.
