(WINDSOR, ON) – The St Clair College varsity soccer teams picked up two big wins Friday afternoon as they hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers at the Main Campus Field.
The women defeated the Mountaineers by a score of 5-2 after falling behind in the first minute of play. The Saints bounced back to score 3 goals in the first 45 minutes to lead 3-1 at the half.
Tiffany Trembley scored in the 12th minute to tie the match at one followed by Carley Malenfant in the 35th minute and Kaitlyn Austin in the 41st minute.
Mohawk made it interesting early in the second half scoring in the 55th minute to make it 3-2. St Clair restored their 2-goal lead in the 68th minute on a nice tally by Melanie Daniel.
Austin notched her second of the game in the 79th minute to put the game away for the Saints.
The game was closer than the final score appeared as Mohawk hit a post and a crossbar midway through the match.
Alexandria Samping was solid in net and earned the win turning aside 10 of the 12 shots she faced.
The women won 3-1 Sunday afternoon, as well, as they hosted the Conestoga Condors at home.
After again falling behind, in the 15th minute, the Saints bounced back to tie the match at one on a goal by Daniel in the in the 25th minute.
St Clair went ahead for good on a nice goal by Austin in the 40th minute. The women carried most of the play for the second half and Trembley iced the game scoring in the 70th minute to make it 3-1.
Samping was again solid in net and earned the win turning aside 5 of the 6 shots she faced. St Clair outshot the Condors 13-6 on the day.
With the win the Saints record improved to 4 wins and a tie on the season. St Clair is currently ranked 5th in the OCAA and are in 2nd place in the West Division.
The women are next in action on October 1 at 12 noon when the travel to Hamilton to take on Mohawk.
